Violent Crimes

Hoffman Angeli LLP has extensive experience representing clients in connection with allegations of serious violent crimes, including assaults, armed robberies, weapons charges, homicides, and murders. The stakes in such cases have increased dramatically since 1994, when Oregon voters passed Ballot Measure 11. That measure imposed long mandatory prison terms for sixteen designated violent and sex-related offenses (five additional offenses were subsequently added) and provided for mandatory waiver of youthful offenders to adult court. Mandatory sentences range from 70 months for second degree assault, kidnapping, robbery, and certain sex offenses, to 300 months for murder. Whether or not an individual has a criminal record, or the length of such record, is irrelevant to the issue of mandatory minimum sentences, which are the same for all offenders. Juveniles aged 15 years or older are also subject to the measure.

In short, more than ever, clients charged with violent crimes in Oregon need counsel with a firm commitment to conducting thorough investigations, engaging in creative and dogged motions practice, and, when necessary, winning jury verdicts at trial. Hoffman Angeli LLP has a long and proven history of success in each of those areas.
